Farm Friends Nederland and Tanzania

The Farm Friends Foundation is a non governmental initiative of a group of people who are interested in dairy enterprises in the third world. In The Netherlands the foundation consists of the Board and the Board of Advice. The Foundation aims to acquire funds, assesses project proposals and reports on the progress that is made.  Farm Friends Tanzania informs the beneficiaries about the possibilities, assesses the project proposals, distributes funds, checks progress and reports to Farm Friends Nederland.

 

Procedures of Farm Friends

A project proposal with a request for financial support can be presented to a representative of Farm Friends Tanzania. In order to realize this support a detailed Qualification Form has to be completed. On the basis of this form, Farm Friends Tanzania gives advice to Farm Friends Nederland. If the plan is approved, the loan or grant will be handed out by Farm Friends Tanzania.

 

Various ways of support

Farm Friends supports in three ways. One is by means of a loan. The applicant receives the amount mentioned in the Qualification Form. Repayment of the loan will be effected through the income. A loan on a cow can be repaid by income of the milk delivered to the dairy factory. Some projects cannot be supported by means of a loan. The applicant may receive a temporary gift. The gift will become permanent when the final objective has been reached. In that case there is no repayment. There is also a possibility of a gift in kind. Dependent on the project the object should be returned to Farm Friends or will be the property of the beneficiary. For instance: a farmer receives a cow that is in calf, the farmer will be the owner of this calf.

 

Transparency for everyone

The principles, project proposals, allocated loans and gifts and progress will be made clear for everyone. The local representative of Farm Friends Tanzania will check the Qualification Forms, the procedure of approval and the progress that is made. Farm Friends makes an annual, written report on its activities and finances. The reports are checked by an external accountant.
